After "Mobile Suit----Gundam:Char's Counterattack" in U.C.0093,both Earthnoid and Spacenoid had enjoyed this rarely occur peace for quite a lengthy period until the introduction of a new threat,Crossbone Vanguard.U.C.0123,Ronah family declared war against the corrupted Federal Military & Earth government and proposed to Spacenoids of rebuilding the space colonies under Project Babylon, with Side IV as their first target.
At the same time, the lead,Seabook Arnold, was in the middle of the festival held by his school before it was interupted by the falling Mobile Suits, and he immediately dropped as many classmates, along with his younger sister,as he could to collect the needed items for evacuation. With their vehicle damaged along the way, they were forced to take one of the old Mobile Suits in the museum and made their way to Mobile Suit size elevator that leads to escape capsules, which went well until Seabook noticed that one of his classmates,Cecille Fairchild, was mssing.
It turned out Cecille was the daughter of Ronah family and one of the objective of Crossbone Vanguard was to locate her, besides trying to cripple Federal Military, with Cecille's cowardly stepfather helped them achieving the objective.Seabook tried to save Cecille but he failed due to the lack of combat experiences.Despite being part of Ronah family & learned her true name,Bella Ronah, she still felt somewhat out of place especially with her biological father,Carlozoe Ronah, who wore a mask as the reminder of his shame of letting his wife & Cecille's biological mother running away with the cowardly stepfather, besides insisting on only taking his mask off to signify the arrival of new era after the completion of Project Babylon.
After he survived the previous battle,Seabook found his way, along with his classmates & survivors they picked up along the way,to a cruiser carrying a new Mobile Suit later named Gundam F91 because of sharing the similar face design with Seabook became the pilot, after delivering an outstanding results in test flight & his first real combat. With Cecille insisting on being hands on,she began to learn to operate Mobile Suit and learned that she felt more at ease with Seabook after they reunited in one of the battles Seabook participated. Both Seabook and Cecille later actively challenged Crossbone Vanguard as they were testing new weapons known as Bug with Carlozoe headed the procedure personally before he decided to activate his Mobile Armour,Rafleshia,to get rid of the troubleosme Seabook & Cecille.
In confusion,Cecille was blown away by explosion produced by her Mobile Suit ripped open by Rafleshia and Seabook frantically began to search for her with all of the sensors of his Gundam F91 after he defeated Carlozoe & his Rafleshia. With him began to lose hope,he noticed a lilly,Cecille's favourite flower, floating in space which immediately led him to Cecille's whereabout with Crossbone Vanguard retreated after the fall of Carlozoe.
Since this movie have none of the characters of previous series,it is more or less more accessible than other series and provided more freedom in settings & designs in many aspects. There are numerous references of the previous series such as Cecille being the child of the powerful Ronah family like Seyla Marse as the daughter of Zion Zoon Daikun and Seabook's mother being the chief designer of Gundam F91 like Amuro's father being the chief designer of Gundam RX-78.Despite having some of the best talents, this movie somehow felt rather undercooked especially how the story unfold in such a short time which probably could be more realistic if the characters have chance to developed if being given more time.
This movie also introduce the miniaturized Mobile Suit after a corporation known as SNRI[Sanari] proposed to Federal Military that besides consuming less fuel, the miniaturisation gave Mobile Suits more mobility & thrust and above all, costed less in the long run.Jegans, the advanced model of GM's,were basically used to showed how small Gundam F91 is when being placed next to the yet to be change standard Mobile Suit size.Originally, this movie was served as a vehicle/prequel to kick-start the next generation of Gundam series, hence the message that said,"It is Only the Beginning" near the end,but for the yet undiclosed mysterious reason,it never happen although there is a Manga titled "Mobile Suit----Crossbone Gundan" which Seabook & Cecille continue on where they left off as space pirates.
This movie was also Mr.Yasuhiko Yoshikazu's last outing as the character designer of Gundam series before he began to concentrate his carrer as Manga artist.Unfortunately,he has yet to produce an impressionable or memorable Manga but he would always be remembered as one of the finest character designers whose style matured with the animation techniques. This movie also briefly touched on the corruption as Seabook was listening to a news of an Earth politician acted indifferent to the chaos in space and believed that the whole situations would resolved by itself eventually. This coruption was later explored deeply and also became the justification of Zion soldiers in the next OVA series titled,"Mobile Suit----Gundam 0083:Stardust Memory".
Side Note: There are also sidestory Mangas based on the movie with one titled,"Mobile Suit----Gundam F90" and another titled "Mobile Suit----Gundam Silhouette Formula 91"."Gundam F90" introduced two Gundam F90's,the first miniaturised Mobile Suits built by SNRI,to explain how Federal Military decided to had SNRI developing more effective Mobile Suits with lower costs."Mobile Suit----Gundam Silhoutte Formula F91" revolved around Anaheim Electronic trying to beat rival SNRI in the race of Mobile Suit miniaturisation but the late start costed Anaheim Electronic dearly in the end.
Devious Comments
Besides articles & sidestories, some Mangas also see the same war from an alternate perspective or looked into it much deeper since the Animes try to remained not too complicate for the sake of the audiences.
It's either 22, or 400-episode series. It's strange that there's no middle ground.
20 odd episodes format is less risky for the experimental ones since it won't cost as much even it ain't as popular.400 odd episodes only happen if the Manga itself is far too long.Basically, the Anime tried to stay with the Manga so they always dished out lots of fillers until they have enough material to continue on after they caught up with the Manga.
I tend to avoid those Animes because some of them can be rip offs sometimes and since the age group is rather young, those kids would follow them without thinking twice just for the fireworks & actions.Adults would eventually give up on them because they somewhat felt cheated after gone through all of the fillers.
Nowadays, lenghty Animes like that tend to include lots of fanservices & busty girls to retain the shallow-minded adults. These Mangas & Animes are already extremely shallow but the above factors somewhat degraded them.I may not be a saint but I sometimes expect some substances when collecting Animes & Mangas.
More or less noticed that if the series didn't have voluptuous female lead at the beginning, there are going to be some voluptuous sub characters later. The only exception I can think of at the moment is Mr.Watsuki's "Busou Renkin" which will be shown on screen in Japan during autumn despite having only 10 volumes and a sudden ending.
