In the near future, humans had successfully created a race of humans known as Co-ordinators through the technology of cloning, but the existence of Co-ordinators only added the tension between co-existence of human race.Naturally,a group of extremists known as Blue Cosmo had the Naturals tuned onto Co-ordinators through fear & paranoia and this tension escalated into a war after the destruction of Jenus 7,one of the space colonies Co-ordinators lived in.
As the counterattack,Co-ordinators developed Mobile Suits which utilised the superior physical aspects of Co-ordinators and left Naturals' Mobile Armours appeared inferior. With Co-ordinators' Mobile Suits overtaking the Earth territories piece by piece, the Earth government decided to develop their own Mobile Suits in the neutral sector in secret but unfortunately, the info leak led the military of Co-ordinators,Zaft,to that neutral sector with the intention of stealing those Mobile Suits known as Gundam's.
In confusion, the lead,Kira Yamato stumbled into the cockpit of one of the Gundam's,Strike Gundam, and he used his superior Co-ordinator abilities to rewrite the OS onboard to fight off the enemies.Despite living in the neutral sector,Kira still aroused some fear & paranoia due to the fact that he was a Co-ordinator but he slowly won over the trusts as the pilot of Strike Gundam. With him became a threat to Zaft,Athrun Zala,Kira's old friend, was forced to choose between following orders and sparing Kira's life until the losses of both sides finally had both of them pitting at each other ferociously.
After Athrun self destructed his Aegis Gundam and survived,he began to regret pitting against Kira especially he thought Kira was gone.As he returned to one of the space colonies of Plant,he learned that his fiance,Lacus Cline, took in the wounded Kira and helped Kira hijacked Freedom Gundam because Kira needed a form of strength to uphold his ideal.Initially,Athrun intended to arrest Lacus Cline until she reminded him his true reason to join Zaft:To fight for justice and what is right, and this reason finally had Athrun decided to fight alongside Kira with his new Justice Gundam after he returned to Earth.
Eventually,Lacus Cline joined the battles as Blue Cosmo decided to launch their final attacks by the indirectly manipulated the Earth Federal Military to unleash their nuclear missiles,as they had done to Jenus 7.A final showdown was unavoidable especially Co-ordinators intended to strike back with their own weapon known as Genesis, which could easily destroy Earth with the intensely deadly radiation with Athrun tried to stop Genesis as Kira faced Athrun's superior,Lao Lu Kruze. With Lao Lu Kruze defeated,Blue Cosmo disbanded & Genesis being destroyed,Kira later lived with Lacus Cline in isolation as the Earth & Plant slowly resolving their differences.
Initially, there are some scepticisms when Sunrise announced the return of Gundam series but all these scepticisms disappeared after the airing of the show.Theoretically, the war of "Mobile Suit----Gundam Seed" is no different than "Mobile Suit----Gundam" but the introduction of the different technologies & perspectives added some freshness into "Gundam Seed" besides including some references to the original series, such as hijacking Gundam's & Strike Gundam rose to its feet like the original Gundam.
It certainly helps that they improved the weakness of "Mobile Suit----Gundam" with a tighter & deeper story as well as introducing new artists in designing characters & machines. It may be a revamp of "Mobile Suit----Gundam" but the above factors helped making it one of the most popular series for the new generation of viewers.Pity there are so me hardcore fans of the original Gundam series do not see the same way. With the success of "Mobile Suit----Gundam Seed",Sunrise decided to strike the iron while it is hot with the disastrous sequel,"Mobile Suit----Gundam Seed: Destiny".
Side Note:Unfortunately, there are simply too many things to cover for this series so I have been forced to leave so many things out for this one.Hope some fans won't be disappointed with this talk.
