In the far distant future, people on Earth somewhat forgot that they were people living in space besides devolved back to Victorian Era,with Moon Race, the people living on the moon, intend to return to their ancestral root.To secure a safe location, they sent in recon teams with the lead,Loran, among the teams who was later taken in by a noble family member,Kiel, who surprisingly looked like the queen of Moon Race,Tiana.
By accident,Loran discovered that the mud idol worshipped by many people was a Mobile Suit,Turn A Gundam, and after a chance meeting,Kiel & Tiana agreed to trade places so to see the lives of different sides but misunderstandings sparked the war between the people on Earth & Moon Race,as more similar Mobile Suits were uncovered. As Loran tried to find a way to resolved the war & differences,he discovered that that was once an advanced civilisation, which was known as the original Gundam universe to us,before it was destroyed by the out of control Turn A Gundam and this blank history was later labelled Black History so to avoid being discovered until now.
At the same time, the enemies also uncovered a Mobile Suit,Turn X,with the same systems housed in Turn A Gundam with both of them exchanged attacks time from time ever since. After Kiel & Tiana traded back their places and convinced both sides had no reasons to fight each other as they recounted the lives they saw from both sides. However, there's a need for Loran to stop Turn X before it would be used to destroy the world and both Turn A & Turn X were left buried after Loran successfully defeated the pilot of Turn X,Ginganum.
Although it has always been a tradition for Sunrise to employ new artists to work on new Gundam series,Sunrise's drastic decisions sparked many criticisms which were mainly aimed at the over simplified mechanical designs. This somewhat reflected how little understanding that Western mechanical designer by delivering the over simplified mechanical designs when Mobile Suits are famous for their detailed designs & attention grabbing looks.
However, the character designs fared a little better and Mr.Tomino even proven the importance of solid story telling as "Turn A Gundam" managed to survived through 50 episodes on solid story alone, when both the character & the mechanical designs were badly criticised whereas "Gundam X" worked the opposite. In fact, many fans during the 90's even dubbed "Turn A Gundam" as the series that killed the franchise with many believed Gundam series were finished for good, until it rose like a Phoenix as always in the form of "Mobile Suit----Gundam Seed".
Side Note: Because of "Turn A Gundam",Gundam Mark II of "Mobile Suit----Z Gundam" finally gained some respects and the adavnced CG technology even able to inject images of numerous original Gundam series into the holographic images in the series besides the fragments in the intro. One thing should be noted that they placed the letter "A" upside down in the title of the series instead of "Turn A".
